Brick Pavers: Your Cement Alternative
Home ownership can be a very rewarding experience. Many people would agree that the home they grew up in played an integral part in the memories of their childhood. However, with all the advantages that come with home ownership there is still much work to be done. The subjects of home maintenance and improvement can be a great joy for some while a huge stress for others. Home improvement enthusiasts and those who would prefer to be more hands-off would both agree that brick pavers can be a great addition to any outdoor space.
Why Brick Pavers?
Brick pavers offer a versatile, cost effective solution to your landscape design needs. These bricks can be arranged in an infinite amount of ways to create any look you are after. That coupled with the fact they can be used for anything from entire driveways, to pool areas, to small walkways, make them a great solution for any homeowner. Brick pavers require low maintenance and are easy to repair if needed, making them the perfect outdoor surface solution. Cement simply doesn’t offer the level of customization that brick pavers can, and won’t be able to provide your outdoor space with as unique of a feature as brick.
Brick Paver Installation
Paver installation is relatively straight forward, but hiring a Romeo brick paver contractor is recommended if you are not experienced in home improvement. After deciding on your final design and layout, the area needs to be dug out about 7 inches deep in order to provide a solid foundation for your new brick pavers to lie. Next, the actual bricks are laid and arranged to conform to your design decisions. This is a good step to spend some time on, as it is much easier to move bricks around in this stage than the next. After you have finalized the layout, sand is poured over the bricks to seal in the cracks. A brick paver contractor is also recommended for this as the more efficient you are, the more cost effective your project will be. Once you have your bricks where they need to be, it’s time to clean up and enjoy! After about 6 months of using your new brick pavers, a layer of sealant will need to be applied to keep your bricks looking like new.
Maintenance and Repairs
After you have applied this initial layer of sealant, it is recommended to apply additional layers every 3 to 7 years. This can vary depending on the weather and traffic exposure your brick pavers are getting. We recommend consulting with a professional brick paver to be sure you have the right maintenance plan.
If something happens to a portion of your brick pavers, they are fairly straight forward to fix. As each brick paver is separate, you typically can replace just the damaged area without having to affect the rest of the structure.
